06 July: Peace Vigil - Southampton Prayer for Peace To mark The Dalai Lama’s Birthday, Bodhicharya Buddhist Group, Southampton will be holding a Peace Vigil at the Queens Peace Fountain on Sunday 6th July 2008. Our aim is to carry The Dalai Lamas message of peace and non-violence to all people, and express our solidarity for those in Tibet, whilst remembering those who continue to live in oppressed & violent circumstances through-out the world.
The event is open to all who share a concern for the plight of the Tibetans and those who are living in oppressed circumstances, and wish to promote peace and non-violence. We would welcome individuals and local faith groups to join us to offer prayers and chants for those who have lost their lives in the recent clashes in Tibet and also to remember those who continue to suffer through-out the world, including those affected by the cyclone in Burma and earthquake in China. We very much hope you will support this event and look forward to seeing you on Sunday 6th July 2008! “We cannot achieve World Peace without first achieving Peace within ourselves…inner peace. Is China-bashing the new Olympic sport? When does valid criticism turn into demonisation?
The rise of China as an economic and political power is the subject of much debate in the West. The dramatic awakening of the 'sleeping giant' sometimes seems to provoke as much fear as admiration. This day of discussions aims to provide some balance and allow participants to reflect on and debate some of the key themes and issues.
The Battle for China is a one-day satellite conference of the Battle of Ideas festival organised by the Institute of Ideas, and is part of the CHINA NOW festival.
Date & time: Saturday 12 July from 9.30am - 6.00pm Venue: Norton Rose, 3 More London Riverside, London SE1 2AQ Ticket price: £15 (Concs. £10)

Our opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will start the on the night before the official ceremony in Beijing, on Thursday 7th of August 2008 at sunset.
We can do it. The world will be watching us. You don't have to leave home in order to participate.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED!!! GLOBAL CALL FOR HELP.
We need to reach at least 100 million people in 7 weeks. Until today most of the efforts to promote our campaign for freedom were done by very few people. Now, we need your help.
Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, decided not to attend the opening ceremony in Beijing, because she probably knew that if she did it would hurt her politically.
We want to put EVERY world leader in the same spot. We will achieve that when we show him or her how many people in their constituency who said YES to freedom in Tibet and in any other place in the world.
WE NEED:
-
Country activity coordinators. They will be in charge of recruiting in their territory. We want every Tibet, Freedom and Human Rights supporter with us
-
People with connection to the media. We need more exposure to attract more people.
-
People who know celebrities who can join and support us.
-
People who can post our campaign in their web sites. Bloggers.
-
Newsletter writer.
-
Translators (Our web site will have 15 languages this weekend, we need more)
-
And any creative idea you might have.
This is the power of the net. Together we will change our reality. Love, Freedom and Peace to all

The Tibetan Communities in Europe who have invited His Holiness the Dalai Lama will offer His Holiness a long life (Tenshug) ceremony on 12 October morning. Tibetans consider the offering of "Tenshug" to His Holiness the Dalai Lama as very auspicious and special occasion for expressing their eternal gratitude and support to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his leadership. The recent tragic events in Tibet is a testimony of the Tibetan people in Tibet’s desire for freedom, dignity and a return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet despite almost 49 years of Chinese occupation of Tibet. The life of His Holiness and the future of the Tibetan people with its unique culture are therefore directly connected.
