Second Tibetan writer imprisoned in 2016 for expressing views PDF Print E-mail
[10 June 2016] A second Tibetan writer has been jailed this year by the authorities in Tibet after writing articles critical of China's policies. Lobsang Jamyang, pen-name Lomik, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on charges of "leaking state secrets" and "engaging in separatist activities".

ACTION: Tibetan blogger jailed for three years PDF Print E-mail
[29 February 2016] China's continued crackdown on any form of dissent in Tibet has been further exemplified by the imprisonment of popular Tibetan blogger Druklo (pen-name Shokjang). The 32 year-old writer and blogger was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on 17 February. It is believed he was charged with inciting separatism after writing articles critical of Chinese government policies in Tibet.

ACTION: Panchen Lama PDF Print E-mail
On 17 May 1995, just three days after he was named as the 11th reincarnation of the Panchen Lama and three weeks after his sixth birthday, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima disappeared along with his family. He was abducted by agencies of the Chinese government becoming the world's youngest political prisoner. To date there has been no independent verification of his well-being or whereabouts.

ACTION: Protests and self-immolations in Tibet PDF Print E-mail
In the past few years there has been a significant number of protests by Tibetans inside Tibet. Despite increasing surveillance and harsh punishments by the Chinese authorities, Tibetans continue to risk their lives by protesting against China's repressive policies. The first self-immolation took place in Tibet in 2009. By the end of 2015, 142 Tibetans had self-immolated inside Tibet. In 2016, three self-immolations have taken place, two in Tibet and one in exile in northern India.

ACTION: Two teenage monks jailed for peaceful protests PDF Print E-mail
[17 December 2015] Two young Tibetan monks have been sentenced for up to four years in prison for undertaking peaceful protests earlier this year. The two monks from Kirti monastery in Ngaba staged independent protests in March and were sentenced in separate trials in late October and early November.
