Call on UK government to end its policy of "not supporting Tibetan independence" PDF Print E-mail
[19 March 2015] The UK government's annual Human Rights and Democracy report was released on 12 March. The section on Tibet begins with the UK's policy on Tibet, recognising Tibet as part of the People's Republic of China, and includes the statement that the UK government "does not support Tibetan independence". Not only is the policy irrelevant to the human rights report, the additional statement is contrary to Tibetans' rights of freedom of self-determination and expression.

ACTION: Tsangyang Gyatso jailed for 12 years for 'inciting protests' PDF Print E-mail
[11 November 2014] Tsangyang Gyatso, a senior monk, has been jailed for 12 years by the Chinese authorities in the Tibet Autonomous Region for allegedly inciting others to protest against Chinese rule. There are concerns for his well-being and that he did not receive due process.

ACTION: Khenpo Kartse PDF Print E-mail
[20 October 2014] Khenpo Kartse, a senior monk and prominent community leader from Yushu, eastern Tibet, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison in a secret trial. Full details of the trial are not yet known. Khenpo Kartse was detained on 6 December 2013 on spurious charges of suspicion of "endangering state security". Khenpo is reported to be in serious ill-health and has been denied access to medical treatment and visits by his family.

TAKE ACTION: Chinese police shoot Tibetan protestors in Loshu PDF Print E-mail
Write to the Chinese Ambassador in your country and Chinese officials in Tibet. Call on China to end the crackdown in Loshu, provide medical treatment for those injured during the suppression of the protest on 12 August 2014, and release all those detained.
