An Interview with Tibet Society’s Vice President & Former Chairman: Mr John Billington PDF Print E-mail

25 November 2017:

John Billington has been a long-time advocate and political campaigner for a Free Tibet. John was one of the first westerners to meet Tibetan refugees in Darjeeling in the early 1960s. He served as Chairman of the Tibet Society and Relief Fund of the UK from 1993 to 1997. John is currently a vice president of the Tibet Society, an honorary title he holds.

The interview was conducted by Dechen Pemba, an inspiring Tibetan woman, who is the editor of High Peaks and Pure Earth (www.highpeakspureearth.com), for the LondonNey Production, a small Tibetan production team based in London.

With the long-time involvement with Tibet and the Tibetan people, John provides a different perspective to the issue of Tibet. This interview touches on John's background; Time in India; Encounter with Tibetans; Situation of Tibetans in India in the 1960s; Meetings with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize; Involvement with Tibet Support Groups in the UK; Travels to Tibet; Best and saddest moments with the Tibetan cause; Reflections on the current situation of Tibet; and finally, Suggestions for the Tibetan struggle in the future.
